Media Technologies, a company owning broad patents that could affect virtually
all companies streaming audio or video online, is going to court for the first
time to test its claims. The company, which has been seeking licensing revenue
from several dozen Internet-based adult entertainment companies for months, said
Friday that it filed patent infringement suits against 39 of those companies in
federal court. Several of those suits were filed several weeks ago, but the
adult entertainment companies had not yet been served with the court documents,
Acacia general counsel Robert Berman said. The remainder are new suits against
companies that have refused to discuss licensing terms or ignored Acacia
altogether.

Image and text searching
techniques
Abstract: Conducting
a search for both text and images includes receiving input, which may include
one or more search criteria for at least one of searchable image characteristics
and text terms. The received input may be compared with searchable image
characteristics and text terms that have been indexed in a single format for
multiple stored images and text segments. A search result is produced based on
the comparison. The searchable image characteristics and text terms may be
indexed in a uniform data format that enables a search engine to use the same
search methodology to search for both images and text. The uniform data format
may be an inverted index data format. The produced search result may include
identifiers for one or more images and text segments that have been retrieved
for display in a ranked manner based on similarity metrics. Index

Embedded Display A material that looks
like paper functions like a display, with excellent contrast. It can be read in
ordinary light and looks just like ordinary paper. It is expected to
revolutionize publishing in our lifetimes, allowing for electronic newspapers
and magazines. A pending patent cover several exciting applications for this new
medium, including intelligent maps, low cost paper brochures with full motion
video display and interactive web pages, cereal boxes with built in games, and
