Movielink tagged with patent suit

http://news.com.com/2100-1025-996442.html

USA Video Technology, based in Delaware, Conn., filed suit Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware against Movielink, a video-on-demand service that USA Video says violates its patent rights for an online movie delivery system. USA Video, a unit of USA Video Interactive, was awarded the patent, called "Store and Forward Video System," in July 1992; it broadly covers a method for Internet users to request and receive "a digitized video program for storage and viewing," according to the complaint. Movielink, which sells digital copies of films for download from its five partners including Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Viacom's Paramount Pictures, violates this patent on the basis of its service, the complaint says.

PING awarded $2.1 million in patent infringement case
http://www.iseekgolf.com/view_articles.php/0/26/1717/4/15/0/1/sidebar

After a Chicago federal jury found Karsten Manufacturing Company parent of PING Inc, not guilty of patent infringement in Vardon Golf Company, Inc vs Karsten Mfg. Co., U.S. District Court Judge David H. Coar awarded Karsten US$2,014,699.13 in attorneys' fees and US$100,900.86 in costs. In the suit, Vardon accused PING's ISI irons and TiSI woods of infringing upon two patents and sought more than $60 million in damages. Karsten filed a counterclaim against Vardon asserting that not only did it not infringe the asserted patents, but that Vardon's patents were invalid and procured by fraud.

Microsoft files suit in Lucent patent battle
http://www.nwfusion.com/news/2003/0411microfiles.html

Microsoft this week filed a lawsuit in a patent fight involving Lucent, Gateway and Dell, after being asked to intervene because the products involved use its own technology. Lucent filed a claim against Gateway in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia in June last year, claiming that some Gateway products incorporating Microsoft technology infringed Lucent-owned patents. Lucent also targeted Dell, in the District Court of Delaware, with a similar patent suit last year, according to court documents. On Tuesday Microsoft filed a lawsuit requesting that the District Court declare invalid 13 patents that Lucent claims to hold. The patents cover audio and video coding as well as position-sensed stylus and touch-screen form-entry technology, according to court documents.

6,549,904 Auction notification system
Abstract:  A method and system for generating notifications of auctions based on user notification requests. In one embodiment, the notification system receives from users selection specifications that specify the types of auctions for which the user is to be notified. The selection specifications may include a category of the auctions, keywords for identifying auctions, and values for attributes associated with the category. When the notification system receives a selection specification, it determines whether that selection specification is the same as or nearly the same as other selection specifications that have been received. The notification system periodically determines whether any new auctions satisfy a selection specification by submitting a query to an auction database and then notifies the users when new auctions are identified. The notification may include a list of auctions that is sorted based on access patterns of users who are presented with lists of auctions using selection specifications with similar category, attribute, or keyword values.

6,548,044 Imaging sexual response
Background:  Female sexual arousal disorder is a poorly understood condition for which there is no reliable diagnostic test. The underlying pathophysiology of this condition is thought to include an inadequate vascular arousal response to sexual stimulation. Vaginal photoplethysmography is the most widely reported method for assessing the vascular component of the arousal response to sexual stimulation (by measuring a change in vaginal pulse amplitude). However, vaginal photoplethysmography has the disadvantage of not providing an absolute measure of either vaginal blood volume or blood flow because all changes are observed without a quantifiable reference baseline. Furthermore, photoplethysmography results are highly variable and depend on exact placement of the probe, among other parameters. Thus, there remains a need to develop better methods and techniques for measuring blood flow in sexual response, preferably female sexual response, and, more particularly, in female sexual arousal disorders

Abstract:  The present invention relates to methods for contrast-enhanced imaging of sexual response. In particular, the present invention relates to methods of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerized X-ray tomography (CT), ultrasound, and optical imaging using contrast agents to measure blood flow during sexual response, especially female sexual response. The invention relates to methods of analyzing normal sexual function and sexual dysfunction and provides a means for evaluating and screening potential therapeutic compounds for enhancing sexual function or treating sexual dysfunction.

    PATENTS AVAILABLE FOR LICENSING

    Financial screening system

In an on-line financial screening service, a database of financial and intellectual property information is searched to find at least one financial security matching user defined financial search criteria. Selection preferences for a financial security are defined as search criteria. The databases are repeatedly searched for records matching the financial selection criteria preferences of the user. Financial securities meeting the users search criteria are then matched to an intellectual property database to determine the number of patents a financial security has been issued

    Laptop Display
The invention includes a computer projector in a portable computer or PDA device. The lightweight, relatively low power display, only adds a few ounces of weight to the computer. It can project a large image display on a screen or wall. In several configurations taught by the patent, the LCD and active matrix displays, a considerable component of the cost of any computer or laptop, are eliminated. The projection device images onto the laptop cover panel, saving hundreds of dollars in manufacturing cost. Put the display cover in the projector position and you can project an image onto a large wall for group viewing.
