US Court of Appeals on Wednesday gave the go-ahead for patent infringement cases
to resume against Palm, Microsoft and Compaq – now part of Hewlett-Packard – and
acknowledged that Palm Pilots may have infringed on patents held by E-Pass
Technologies Inc. The Court of Appeals issued an opinion last Wednesday
reversing a district court opinion. Accordingly the case has now been sent back
to the district court to determine whether the devices do actually infringe the
E-Pass patent.

said Friday that a U.S. District Court in Philadelphia ruled that a formulation
patent for the company's high blood pressure drug Plendil is valid and was
infringed by Mutual Pharmaceutical Co. Plendil, a calcium channel blocker, is
also prescribed as a treatment for angina. Judge Michael M. Baylson of the U.S.
District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania issued a decision Friday
granting AstraZeneca's motion for summary judgment against Mutual and entered a
final judgment in favor of AstraZeneca. Index Drug-maker Lilly drops
willful infringement claim against Ivax http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/business/6577732.htm Ivax Corp. said
Wednesday that Eli Lilly & Co. agreed to dismiss its claim that Ivax is
planning to willfully infringe on patents for its top-selling drug. Miami-based
Ivax filed with the Food and Drug Administration in 2001 to sell a generic
version of Lilly's Zyprexa schizophrenia drug, which had 2002 sales of about
$3.69 billion. Lilly, Indianapolis, then sued Ivax, along with India's Dr.
Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. and Israel's Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.,
which also filed to sell olanzapine, the generic version of Zyprexa.

Abstract: A method
for discovering and assigning telephone numbers that have commercial, trademark
or vanity significance to requesting subscribers on a worldwide scale. The
method includes determining numbers that have value because they potentially
will be requested for commercial, trademark or vanity purposes by companies or
persons active in various locations in the world. Language translations and
transliterations are also taken into account in order to obtain a telephone
number that will retain its commercial, trademark or vanity value in an area
that speaks a different language.

Real time boxing sports meter and
associated methods
Abstract: A power
sensing unit is incorporated into a boxing glove for use according to a method
of quantifying impact forces in a boxing match in real time. Impact force data
is transmitted from the boxing glove to a remote receiver. The force data is
collated to assess the strike force generated by each boxer.

Plug-and-play smart data
cable The invention includes a smart, plug-and-play cable capable of
transparently translating between two different communication protocols. The
cables are "plug-and-play" such that two devices can be coupled together for
communication without the requirement that the user perform any special set-up
steps in order for it to work. To implement this plug-and-play functionality,
the smart cable of the present invention determines which communication
protocols are required at each of its ports, and selects, activates, enables, or
downloads the appropriate communication protocol drivers to enable proper
operation.
