Rambus claims against Infineon cleared to proceed
http://www.itworld.com/Man/2681/040112rambusinfineon/

A trial date has been set for Rambus Inc.'s patent infringement lawsuit against Infineon Technologies AG, as a federal judge denied an Infineon request to delay the trial pending the outcome of a separate Rambus trial with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Rambus said Thursday. The two companies have been embroiled in litigation for several years over charges that Infineon and other makers of DRAM (dynamic RAM) chips are infringing upon patents held by Rambus. Infineon and other DRAM companies such as Micron Technology Inc. and Hynix Semiconductor Inc. contend that Rambus deceived a standards-setting body into adopting technology patented by Rambus for the DRAM standard.

PATENTS OF THE DAY
6,677,858 Internet-based method of and system for monitoring space-time coordinate
information and biophysiological state information collected from an
animate object along a course through the space-time continuum
Abstract:  An Internet-based method of and system for monitoring space-time coordinate information and biophysiological state information collected from an animate object moving along a course through the space-time continuum. The Internet-based system comprise a wireless GSU-enabled client network device affixed to the body of an animate object. The wireless device includes a global synchronization unit (GSU) for automatically generating time and space (TS) coordinate information corresponding to the time and space coordinate of the animate object with respect to a globally referenced coordinate system, as the animate object moves along a course through the space time continuum. The device also includes biophysiological state sensor affixed to the body of the animate object, for automatically sensing the biophysiological state of the animate object and generating biophysiological state information indicative of the sensed biophysiological state of the animate object along its course. The wireless device also includes a wireless date transmitter for transmitting the TS coordinate information and the biophysiological state information through free-space. A TS-stamping based tracking server receives the TS coordinate information and the biophysiological state information through in a wireless manner, and stores the same as the animate object moves along its course. An Internet information server serves Internet-based documents containing the collected TS coordinate and biophysiological state information. An Internet-enabled client system enables authorized persons to view the served Internet-based documents and monitor the collected TS coordinate and biophysiological state information, for various purposes.

6,675,744 Mood collar for pets
Background:  Animal health awareness is a major concern of animal lovers today. Concerns for the health of animals became prevalent with the increased amount of domestic pets in modern households. Pets for companionship cause tremendous emotional bonds to form between pets and their owners. With the formation of these bonds, comes a new awareness for the physical and emotional health of these pets. Presently, 60% of American households own pets with a majority of owners claiming a parental type relationship with their pets. The cost of veterinarian care for domestic pets makes it imperative for responsible pet owners to engage in preventive medicine for the care of their pet much like they do for themselves. This care should include both physical and emotional disorders. In the past, animal care has been restricted to basic nutrition, shelter, worming, spading, et. However, the increase in domestic pets has caused an awareness of emotional problems that can escalate into physiological problems. For example, the increased amount of time pets must spend alone due to dual income households has caused an increased diagnosis of Animal Separation Disorder. This disorder, based on the emotional stress of pets longing for his parental type owner, usually manifests as destructive animal behavior. Characteristically, pets damage or destroy the homes in which they remain for long periods of time incurring substantial repair costs in addition to medical treatment costs for the pet which injures itself. More importantly, these types of emotional disorders can lead to physiological problems relating to the heart or nervous system. As the disorder continues to progress, the physiological and emotion state of the pet rapidly deteriorates. These types of problems are routinely blamed on obedience rather than a serious emotional problem with the pet. At present, there is no simple or easy invention that can detect emotional trauma of house pets. Accordingly, a need exists for a device that displays changes rapidly with the emotions of the pet, can be comfortably attached and is inexpensive and accurate. This has not heretofore been achieved in the art.

Abstract:  A decorative animal collar having "mood stones" which are in contact with the body of a pet. Specifically, the invention is directed to an animal collar containing encapsulated or artificial stones containing cholesteric liquid crystals called "mood stones" that can identify the mood of an animal based on changes in body temperature.

    Plug-and-play smart data cable

The invention includes a smart, plug-and-play cable capable of transparently translating between two different communication protocols. The cables are "plug-and-play" such that two devices can be coupled together for communication without the requirement that the user perform any special set-up steps in order for it to work. To implement this plug-and-play functionality, the smart cable of the present invention determines which communication protocols are required at each of its ports, and selects, activates, enables, or downloads the appropriate communication protocol drivers to enable proper operation.

Electric shaver having orbitally moving blades
An electric shaver includes blades which while rotating
around their own centers also orbit around another axis,
thus providing that the blades sweep a large area.

    Implantable fuel cell
This invention makes use of an electrostrictive material
to increase the efficiency of a fuel cell as used for the
production of power within a human.
