Judge: Company permitted to use aerial footage for Super Bowl

http://www.cinematography.com/index.asp?newsID=136

A federal judge has denied an injunction that sought to prevent a California company from using its aerial camera suspension system during the Super Bowl on Sunday. U.S. District Judge Legrome Davis ruled Friday in response to a patent infringement complaint filed by suburban Philadelphia-based CF InFlight against rival Cablecam International, which was contracted by CBS to provide aerial footage of all but one NFL postseason game. The complaint centered on an aerial camera system, the Multi-V, developed by Cablecam and used at professional and amateur sporting events. Cablecam is under contract to use its system for NFL games televised on Fox and CBS. In its complaint, CF Inflight alleged that Cablecam infringed on its patent for the Skycam, a similar cable suspension system used during Sunday night and Monday night football games televised on ESPN and ABC, respectively. Davis said although the Skycam and Multi-V systems "perform essentially the same function" by providing aerial footage, the similarity between the two was "insufficient" to merit a preliminary injunction.

6,685,188 Method and apparatus for performing a transaction without the use of spoken communication between the transaction parties
Background:  Existing translational communication aids are conceived to teach or assist a person in learning, reading or speaking a foreign language. This means that such aids are not designed to perform a transaction for the user by clearly communicating the goal of the transaction to another party. Instead, existing translational communication aids are designed to teach someone how to speak and communicate in that foreign language. Transactional flash cards are actually quite the opposite; they circumvent the need to learn, memorize or even pronounce a word or a phrase.

Abstract:  A method for performing a transaction without the use of spoken communication is disclosed. The method consists of providing at least one transactional flash card having information about the transaction and the transaction goal displayed on the card in text understandable to the user and different text understandable to the party from whom the user wishes to purchase goods or services. The method may include displaying such a flash card in printed form, or on a personal electronic device. The method may further include providing flash cards having inquiries about price, payment methods, or shipping terms. Also disclosed are transactional flash cards used with the method.

    Plug-and-play smart data cable

The invention includes a smart, plug-and-play cable capable of transparently translating between two different communication protocols. The cables are "plug-and-play" such that two devices can be coupled together for communication without the requirement that the user perform any special set-up steps in order for it to work. To implement this plug-and-play functionality, the smart cable of the present invention determines which communication protocols are required at each of its ports, and selects, activates, enables, or downloads the appropriate communication protocol drivers to enable proper operation.

Electric shaver having orbitally moving blades
An electric shaver includes blades which while rotating
around their own centers also orbit around another axis,
thus providing that the blades sweep a large area.

    Implantable fuel cell
This invention makes use of an electrostrictive material
to increase the efficiency of a fuel cell as used for the
production of power within a human.
