Gateway settles patent suit with Intergraph
http://www.computerweekly.com/articles/article.asp?liArticleID=130562&liArticleTypeID=1&liCategoryID=6&liChannelID=28&liFlavourID=1&sSearch=&nPage=1

Intergraph has settled its Clipper patent lawsuit with Gateway. PCs sold under the Gateway and eMachines brands now have a licence for Intergraph's Clipper memory management technology, Intergraph said. The licence cost Gateway a one-time $10m (£5.7m) fee spread out over the rest of this year as well as future royalty payments of $1.25 on select PCs sold by Gateway until February 2009. Intergraph, now a software company, used to manufacture graphics workstations and processors. The company has sued a number of PC and processor companies alleging that their chips infringe on a patent Intergraph holds for the cache memory design of its Clipper processors sold in the 1980s.

Monsanto sues Syngenta over genetically modified corn
http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/mld/myrtlebeachonline/business/8660626.htm

Monsanto Co. has accused Syngenta AG of patent infringement, looking to block the rival agribusiness giant from technology used in producing a popular genetically modified corn. Syngenta fired back Thursday, calling the legal action groundless and suggesting it would press ahead in using the technology. "This case is totally without merit," said David Jones, Syngenta's business-development chief. "Monsanto's lawsuit is a flagrant attempt to intimidate customers and restrict choice in the market." The federal lawsuit, filed Wednesday in Delaware, involves what St. Louis-based Monsanto called its "fundamental technique" used in producing glyphosate-tolerant plants, namely corn.

Maxim claims legal victory over Qualcomm
http://www.commsdesign.com/news/market_news/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=20300831

Maxim Integrated Products Inc. said Wednesday (May 12) that the U.S. District Court in San Diego has entered partial summary judgment in favor of Maxim in the patent infringement suit filed against it by Qualcomm Inc. "The partial summary judgment decision confirms that manufacturers of CDMA cellular phones who have signed a Qualcomm license agreement with the same pertinent terms as the license agreements presented to the court do not infringe the patents asserted against Maxim when the manufacturers incorporate Maxim products into their phones," the company said in a statement.

    Plug-and-play smart data cable

The invention includes a smart, plug-and-play cable capable of transparently translating between two different communication protocols. The cables are "plug-and-play" such that two devices can be coupled together for communication without the requirement that the user perform any special set-up steps in order for it to work. To implement this plug-and-play functionality, the smart cable of the present invention determines which communication protocols are required at each of its ports, and selects, activates, enables, or downloads the appropriate communication protocol drivers to enable proper operation.

Electric shaver having orbitally moving blades
An electric shaver includes blades which while rotating
around their own centers also orbit around another axis,
thus providing that the blades sweep a large area.

    Implantable fuel cell
This invention makes use of an electrostrictive material
to increase the efficiency of a fuel cell as used for the
production of power within a human.
