Reno-based International Game Technology has sued Alliance Gaming Corp., claiming several of its rival's new slots and gambling systems infringe on IGT patents. In the suit filed earlier this week in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas, the world's biggest slot maker accuses Alliance of infringing on six IGT patents covering slots and systems featuring bonus wheels and touch-screen display devices. Also named in the suit Tuesday were Alliance subsidiaries Bally Gaming and Bally Gaming International. "IGT has always vigorously defended its intellectual property," said Dave Johnson, general counsel for IGT. "Consistent with that philosophy, we have filed this case to stop defendants from misappropriating IGT's patented innovations."

Chase Medical, Inc., a Dallas company specializing in products for the treatment of cardiovascular disease, today announced that it had filed a patent infringement lawsuit against CHF Technologies, Inc. and Endoscopic Technologies, Inc. (also known as Estech). The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Dallas. The '773 patent relates to products and methods for treating congestive heart failure. Chase Medical's Vice President of Research and Development, Suresh Reddy, stated: "Our company was the first to develop the technology described in our '773 patent. This patent, along with other patents/patent applications owned by Chase Medical, protect valuable TRISVR(TM) technology that is now being used by a growing number of professionals. We firmly believe that our patent rights are being infringed, which is why this suit was filed."

    Plug-and-play smart data cable

The invention includes a smart, plug-and-play cable capable of transparently translating between two different communication protocols. The cables are "plug-and-play" such that two devices can be coupled together for communication without the requirement that the user perform any special set-up steps in order for it to work. To implement this plug-and-play functionality, the smart cable of the present invention determines which communication protocols are required at each of its ports, and selects, activates, enables, or downloads the appropriate communication protocol drivers to enable proper operation.
