Court Finds in ViaCell's Favor in PharmaStem Patent Case

ViaCell, Inc. announced today that a Federal Court in Delaware reversed the jury's judgment completely and ruled in favor of ViaCell and against PharmaStem on all of PharmaStem's claims in the patent infringement case brought by PharmaStem in Delaware and relating to ViaCell's ViaCord umbilical cord blood preservation product. In particular, the Court's Order of this week reversed a prior jury verdict with respect to the only patent remaining in the case, U.S. Patent No. 5,004,681, and ruled in favor of ViaCell on PharmaStem's claim of infringement. In September 2004, the Court reversed the jury's verdict and ruled in favor of ViaCell and against PharmaStem on PharmaStem's claim of infringement of the only other patent in that case, U.S. Patent No. 5,192,553. Further, as a result of the Court's action, PharmaStem's recent motion for a preliminary injunction against ViaCell was dismissed.

Microsoft, Autodesk sign patent pact

As part of its plan to access a broader portfolio of intellectual property, Microsoft has signed a patent swap deal with design software maker Autodesk. Under the pact, the two companies will get access to each other's patents in a variety of areas, including data management, collaboration, digital effects, digital rights management, project management, computer-aided design and location-based services.

Permlight Settles Patent Lawsuit

Permlight Products and Tempo Lighting announced today that the two companies have reached a settlement in the patent infringement lawsuit filed on April 30, 2004 claiming infringement of Permlight's U.S. Patent Nos. 6,416,200 and 6,082,870. Tempo will license Permlight's patented theater lighting technology for its Sentinel and Sentry products. Terms of the license were not disclosed.

Method for initiating internet telephone service from a web page

Abstract: A direct telephone dialing scheme for initiating internet telephone service from a web page is provided. The scheme allows a caller, using an internet telephone service, to place telephone call to a telephone number appearing on any web page directly from that web page. In one embodiment, a caller navigates to a desired web page on the internet and the caller dials a telephone number on that web page directly to initiate a two-way audio communication with the destination telephone number using an internet telephone service. The direct telephone dialing scheme of the present invention improves the accessibility and ease of use of internet telephone services. Furthermore, the direct telephone dialing scheme can be used with video, data, and fax a communications which are supported by the VoIP data communication standard.

Breeding simulation apparatus for virtual creatures

Abstract: It is a purpose of this invention to provide a simulation for breeding a virtual creature for growing the virtual creature while disciplining or training the virtual creature by treatments in respect of breeding applied by a player to the virtual creature in a screen. The apparatus is provided with display units individually displaying a plurality of kinds of the treatments in respect of breeding the virtual creature individually and is provided with key switches for inputting a corresponding one of the treatments by selecting a specific mark from the plurality of marks. It has a storing unit for storing control data in respect of breeding the virtual creature and a control unit whereby when one of the treatments for breeding the virtual creature is inputted by operating the key switches, the control data in correspondence therewith is read from the storing unit and a control processing in respect of breeding the virtual creature is conducted based on the read control data, and a virtual creature display unit for displaying the fostered virtual creature.
