Index ================================================== NEWS Abrika Pharmaceuticals
Responds to Patent Suit Concerning Wellbutrin XL(R) http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/041227/flm006_1.html Abrika
Pharmaceuticals LLLP (Abrika) has been advised that Biovail Laboratories, Inc.
(Biovail) has commenced a patent suit in the Federal District Court for the
Southern District of Florida against the company in response to Abrika's
abbreviated new drug application ("ANDA") filed with the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration for 150 mg and 300 mg generic versions of Wellbutrin XL®. Abrika
has not yet seen or been served with the complaint. Biovail filed this action
despite the fact that it had more than sufficient information to determine that
Abrika's generic products do not infringe Biovail's patents. Abrika is confident
that it will be successful in its defense and will vigorously oppose Biovail's
challenge and attempt to delay Abrika's introduction of a low-cost generic
version of Wellbutrin XL®. Index Tercica Sues Insmed in
U.S. Court http://www.forbes.com/business/feeds/ap/2004/12/23/ap1728495.html Biopharmaceutical
company Tercica Inc. reported Thursday that it is suing rival Insmed Inc. for
patent infringement because of efforts to commercialize its growth hormone
SomatoKine in the United States. Insmed confirmed Tuesday that it received a
cease and desist letter from Tercica concerning the commercialization efforts.
Tercica said the cease and desist letter applies to U.S. growth factor patents
it licenses from biotech company Genentech Inc. The suit, filed in a Northern
California district court, alleges that Insmed's SomatoKine infringes two U.S.
patents licensed to Tercica. SomatoKine is made up of insulin-like growth
factor-1, or IGF-1, and insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3, or
IGFBP-3, Tercica said. The suit follows a similar one that Tercica filed Monday
in Britain against Insmed and its contract manufacturer Avecia Ltd. Insmed
expects to file a new drug application soon with the Food and Drug
Administration for SomatoKine to treat growth hormone insensitivity syndrome.

System for pointing
Abstract: A method
and a system in a computing environment which are capable of accurately pointing
to any desired position in displayed images of various shapes. Pointing to a
desired position on a displayed image is performed by using position correction
information (position information of a hot spot) and an associated image as a
template. A hot spot is an arbitrary point specified in advance in a template
image, and a hot spot position in the template image is used as correction
information of a pointing position. First, an image in the vicinity of a display
coordinate obtained from a pointing device is compared with at least one
template image. A closest matching template image and its position on an image
are determined, and a final pointing position is calculated from the position on
the image and position correction information (position information of a hot
spot) associated with the template image.

Built-in self repair for an
integrated circuit
Abstract: An
integrated circuit, such as a memory device, includes a built-in repair circuit.
The repair circuit includes an on-chip source that produces a programming signal
of sufficient duration and magnitude to program a programmable element that
normally isolates a secondary circuit, such as redundant circuitry, from the
remainder of the circuits on the device. Once programmed, the redundant
circuitry may take the place of failed circuitry, and thus repair the device.

Plug-and-play smart data
cable The invention includes a smart, plug-and-play cable capable of
transparently translating between two different communication protocols. The
cables are "plug-and-play" such that two devices can be coupled together for
communication without the requirement that the user perform any special set-up
steps in order for it to work. To implement this plug-and-play functionality,
the smart cable of the present invention determines which communication
protocols are required at each of its ports, and selects, activates, enables, or
downloads the appropriate communication protocol drivers to enable proper
operation.
Electric shaver having orbitally moving blades An
electric shaver includes blades which while rotating around their own centers
also orbit around another axis, thus providing that the blades sweep a large
area.
Implantable fuel cell This invention makes use of an
electrostrictive material to increase the efficiency of a fuel cell as used
for the production of power within a human.
